Karla Caballero, LMFTA

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist

My training is in relationship and family therapy as well as individual psychotherapy. I have experience working with couples, families, adolescents and early childhood behavioral concerns. I have been active in working under brief or single-session therapy models as well as walk-in therapy services. My areas of interest are working with individuals that have anxieties related to obsessive compulsive disorder, attachment issues, phobias, social anxiety and parent-child developmental or behavioral concerns.

My practice stems from a systemic approach, which views problems as influenced and maintained by the systems in which the client is active in. We identify negative or positive feedback cycles that maintain the issue as well as implementation of patterns that counter the problem. I function from a strengths based perspective which allows for the exploration of strengths already present within the client, further identifying the processes that they are in control of. Models that support my training and experience are:

  • Brief Strategic Therapy
  • Structural Family Therapy
  • Solution Focused Therapy
  • Behavior Therapy
  • Parent-Child Interaction Therapy
  • Trauma Informed Behavior Therapy (for those that have experienced trauma of some kind at any age)

I view counseling and therapy as something that everyone can benefit from, whether to focus on building on the positive elements already in one’s life to working through issues that may arise as life throws change in our system.  I find that individuals sometimes get what they need from a single session, just like one would get from visiting a doctor for a cold. I leave this determination up to the client, as they are they expert of their own lives.
